You said it! terrible, had it been a spoof you would still expect better acting. Although the direction could have been part of it as a couple of the actors usually give better performances than they did in this turkey.

What the hell? How can anyone call this film a "mess" or anything like that? This movie was actually quite good and was well made in my opinion. It is FAR superior to some of the Sci-Fi/Horror crap that gets deficated out of Hollywood nowadays.
BTW, I do agree with the OP that Hunter Carson is a TERRIBLE actor. If there was any major flaw with this movie it is his acting - it is atrocious. I guess that being the son of Karen Black helped secure him the gig. -

I didn't find any of the main actors very good in this, but have to agree that Hunter Carson was dreadful. I watched some of it again with the sound off the other day, and he was just all flailing arms and bugged-out eyes. He didn't seem to have a feel for his character at all. If he was cast because he was Karen Black's son, he shouldn't have been, unless he had sufficient talent to go with the relationship. Now I haven't seen him in anything since then, so it's possible he went on to become a better actor.

Even a talented child actor couldn't have salvaged this wreck, but I cast my lot with the majorityCarson was execrable.
You would think that having a substantial role in
Paris, Texas
would be a signifier of big things, but obviously not.

I didn't think he was so bad. He gave an average performance, and actually I think he was better than some of the veterans in the cast. Compared to them, his acting was pretty natural. You're not going to find Haley Joel Osment or Anna Paquin in every movie starring a kid, you know.

I never expect too much out of child actors, and can look past their performances. I've seen worse performances out of kids. I found Karen's terrible performance much more distracting, and have a harder time cutting her slack for it, since she was an Oscar nominated actress. But I can look past it, and some of the other not-so-great performances, since this movie (as fun as it is) wasn't exactly Oscar material. And maybe working with Hunter was a distraction.
