I wouldn't want to see anyone else as Jareth and as David is now gone (RIP Legend), I hope there will never be a remake. What I would have however wanted to see, is a sequel to this, with David and Jennifer, after the original, but that wasn't meant to be.

i agree, I would have been interested in a sequel, with the same cast but that will never be.

I love this movie. It's a piece of my childhood, and I hate the very idea of a remake. There can be only one Jareth, and that was David Bowie. The very idea of a remake is ludicrous to me.
Hollywood (and that includes Tim Burton), please keep your money-grubbing, CGI-obsessed hands off of this wonderful piece of my childhood.

No, never. Too many movies are being rebooted. Sick to death of the reboots. Let the film stand on it's own, as it deserves.

Would fit perfectly: Jennifer Lawrence looks as much a teenager as Sting looks like a thirty-something goblin king

Because the point is that an attractive king lures a girl into a labyrinth. It has to be a girl because it is a childrens movie. Which pretty much excludes Jennifer Lawrence from the cast. And unless the girl is gerontophile, Sting would not really be the choice for the king, unless there is also a goblin prince and the king is more or less on his way out.

There is nothing scary about him. It has to be an alien for that role. Perhaps Ben Wishaw or Andrew Garfield (although those are probably too young for the role). But that is pretty much the reason why remakes are pointless: one has to match the quality of the original, which had Bowie and Jennifer Conelly as a new discovery.
Perhaps the smartest way would be, to go the opposite direction and that way being less comparable: A goblin queen, who steals the baby from a boy. Would also offer the advantage that the movie could show the queen trying to seduce the boy without creating a sh!tstorm.

No reboot. Reboots just pee all over the original. There are enough new ideas out there so why do they keep messing with classics.

why do you even want this movie to be remade, let alone think of other people for the roles. its perfect as it is leave it alone

Because remakes dont mean they stop selling/showing the original lol the original will always stay the same!!! imo i would love to see what they can do to enhance this movie with modern day cgi dont get me wrong i love this movie as is but im curious to see this

remakes just ruin it, no remake has ever been as good as the original, CGI is not better, just look at charlie and the chocolate factory movies the old one is far better without cgi.

That's a good bit of casting! J-Law would be great, though not sure about Daniel Day Lewis.
Watched this again today and it's certainly worthy of a remake. I actually thought it was pretty poor.
P.S. Thought Connelly could return as the stepmother!

While I certainly don't think its "poor" by any means (I love this movie), the idea of this thread was more of just a silly idea. (tho maybe a reboot could be cool). I dont think I would want them to actually remake it bc the original wont be beat. More of just a thought excercise- what actors today would make a cool cast in that world?

I don't remember if they said they're in talks to reboot Labyrinth or if they're just in serious talks about it but I'll contribute. I have multiple choices for the leads for a few reasons.
                                        Jareth:
                                        Jared Leto or Tom Hiddleston
Leto would be perfect to capture that rockstar quality that Bowie gave to Jareth BUT Hiddleston could bring a dark and Shakespearean quality to the character. Either way I think both would be solid choices.
                                        Sara:
Willow Shields, Skyler Samuels, or Freya Tingley.
All three are what I would call "low name" actresses - they've all been in something that people have seen (Willow Shields - The Hunger Games, Skyler Samues - Scream Queens, Freya Tingley - Once Upon A Time/Hemlock Grove). They're all teenage girls who actually look like normal teenage girls.
Not to mention I don't cringe when they act. (Which is a HUGE problem I have with teen actors/actresses these days)
                                        Hoggle:
                                        Warwick Davis
