remakes just ruin it, no remake has ever been as good as the original, CGI is not better, just look at charlie and the chocolate factory movies the old one is far better without cgi.

That's a good bit of casting! J-Law would be great, though not sure about Daniel Day Lewis.
Watched this again today and it's certainly worthy of a remake. I actually thought it was pretty poor.
P.S. Thought Connelly could return as the stepmother!

While I certainly don't think its "poor" by any means (I love this movie), the idea of this thread was more of just a silly idea. (tho maybe a reboot could be cool). I dont think I would want them to actually remake it bc the original wont be beat. More of just a thought excercise- what actors today would make a cool cast in that world?

I don't remember if they said they're in talks to reboot Labyrinth or if they're just in serious talks about it but I'll contribute. I have multiple choices for the leads for a few reasons.
              Jareth:
              Jared Leto or Tom Hiddleston
Leto would be perfect to capture that rockstar quality that Bowie gave to Jareth BUT Hiddleston could bring a dark and Shakespearean quality to the character. Either way I think both would be solid choices.
              Sara:
Willow Shields, Skyler Samuels, or Freya Tingley.
All three are what I would call "low name" actresses - they've all been in something that people have seen (Willow Shields - The Hunger Games, Skyler Samues - Scream Queens, Freya Tingley - Once Upon A Time/Hemlock Grove). They're all teenage girls who actually look like normal teenage girls.
Not to mention I don't cringe when they act. (Which is a HUGE problem I have with teen actors/actresses these days)
              Hoggle:
              Warwick Davis

I guess Verne Troyer but that is just typecasting at this point.

Daniel Day Lewis and Jennifer Lawerance are too old.

Why don't we just gather up all the copies of Labyrinth while we're at it, throw them on a bonfire and piss over the raging inferno?? A remake is a horrible idea and those are all horrible choices. Jennifer Lawrence is 25 years old. She can not pull off playing a 16 year old. Ludo is a beast. Why did you pick Robbie Coltrane just because he is big? Ditto to Peter Dinklage playing Hoggle. That is just stereotyping and very nasty. And Bradley Cooper playing Toby? Why is Toby a grown up? Bradley Cooper is 41 years old so how the hell can he be playing the younger brother to 25 year old Jennifer Lawrence's character? Were you high when you thought of this?? Crap ideas all round I pray that nobody influential in Hollywood reads your post and think it's a good idea.

If David Bowie was still alive & had something to do with the songs or writing yes. But now it would be doing a Hook remake.

No no no no no no no no no.
                        SO MUCH NO.
Crappy movies should be remade. But never, NEVER the good ones let alone the great ones. Why fix something that isn't broken? Why?
It speaks volumes of how far people's expectations have fallen that we no longer shun unnecessary reboots and remakes, and actually start asking for more of them.
                        So, so sad.

Exactly. And it kills me how people will defend reboots and remakes to their dying day, saying that the younger generation can't relate to the older movies, or that the special effects are outdated, or whatever. Ridiculous excuses all around.
"Oh yeah, one more thing.where can I get a pizza?."

I am in the no interest in a remake camp, though I would not be opposed to a well done sequel, it obviously would not be as awesome as it could have been if done while Bowie was still around to be in it, but Connelly returning as an adult Sarah to rescue her Labyrinth friends after the labyrinth falls into the hands of some villain following the death of the Goblin King, and have it coincide with something happening in adult Sarah's life where it parallels her journey in the labyrinth and she learns something she needs within herself just like in the original, (plus it would tie in with the whole" if you ever should need us for any reason at all" thing Hoggle and all the labyrinth creatures say to her at the end. Nothing will quite have the magic of the original, but I think the central theme of labyrinth and Sarah's coming of age story of realizing that in some ways she needs to let go of some things from childhood, but also the importance of not letting it all go, and keeping some of that childhood magic with you, would be an interesting premise to explore from the angle of what happens to that imaginative kid like Sarah once the adult world gets ahold of her, and how can the labyrinth help her find herself again after she's lost herself in the "real world".
And for the love of all things that should be sacred, MAKE IT WITH ACTUAL PUPPETS NOT CGI.

Mackenzie Foy as Sarah, Eddie Redmayne as Jareth, and I don't know who he could play but I would want Thomas Brodie-Sangster to be in it and not in a weird costume or anything.

I've always wanted to see Bailee Madison as Sarah in some sort of Play adaptation. For the goblin king I think Daniel Day Lewis is a great actor but I like the thought of doing what they did in the 80's, getting a music icon to do the part who also has some acting chops. And while there's no need to make a remake because the original was so good, there is a generation it reaches that may go watch the original that otherwise might not have, and that in and of itself would be worth it

I offer my forbiddance to reboot this movie. I think perfect movies like this need no rebooting.
