I was 6. It's rated PG, so I imagine that's why they didn't take me. I don't remember how old I was when I did see it, but it was on VHS a couple of years later

      Still never have seen it.
I was in my mid 30's back then and it did not get good reviews and did not seem aimed at people my age. Certainly what advertising there was didn't appeal to me.
I have considered getting the new 4k version that is coming out in September.

I was 10 when this film came out but never heard of it until it showed up on TV.

I watched it at an outdoor cinema during a summer holiday with my family when it was first released (in Hungary it came out a year after its original release). I was 6 and a half, it was night time, we were sitting in the dark in front of a huge screen, and we had no idea what film we're about to watch, we just wanted to see a movie and this was on that night. My mind was blown by it, and fell in love with it and I still love it after nearly 30 years. I've seen it a million times and I'm just about to introduce it to my partner tonight who is so unfortunate that he's never seen it before. His life is about to change 🙂

I probably didn't go to the cinema to see it because the closest theater was quite a drive from us and if I remember correctly not every theater showed all the movies that came out (I could be remembering wrong though). My mum did love Bowie and I liked his music as well. I remember watching it with her when it was finally on TV (HBO or whatever movie channel we had on cable back then) and I totally fell in love with The Goblin King.

I was 27 when this came out. I was not a Muppets kid and yes, it seemed like a silly distraction for me at the time. I suppose I was more attracted to adult fare such as Against All Odds or No Way out.
But Labyrinth is on TV right now, and it looks like fun. I don't like when movies are interrupted with musical interludes - unless it's actually a musical - so early on when Bowie sings with the baby, this doesn't appeal to me. But like The Princess Bride, if you give it a chance, it's good fun
I'm not a woman, much less Deanna Durbin, but the old-time glam-shot appeals to me.

I remember being almost mesmerized of the preview stating "The imagination of Jim Henson. The Wizardry of George Lucas"
But I couldn't get anyone to take me to see it in a theater. And being a kid, I couldn't get there on my own. So didn't get to see it until video.

I was 12 when it came out.
I went to see it with two friends because it was a disgustingly hot day (it was actually the 4th of July and we had hours to kill before the fireworks and such). There were a couple of movies to pick and we rather randomly agreed on Labyrinth. I knew very little about it beyond seeing a picture of Jennifer in a fantastic ball gown on some magazine cover a few days earlier.
My friends liked it, but didn't love it. I, on the other hand, loved it so much that I went back again a few more times until it left the theater.

I saw this in the theater at 13 years old and didn't care for it. I thought it was too weird and a bit childish. I was also not into musicals. My uncle was a little under 30 years old at the time, saw it with him and he loved it. I would catch some of it on HBO a few times when I was in my mid to late teens but didn't really sit down to watch it.
Let's fast forward to around 2010 when it was playing at the Aero theater in Santa Monica CA. I showed up late since it was a double feature and it was the next movie I was interested in. So here I am watching the 2nd half of Labyrinth and saying to myself, "wow this is pretty damn good! Why didn't I like this when I was younger?" I was especially liking the music which seemed cheesy when I was a kid. I think this film became more popular later on because like me, people realized it was a good fantasy film. I still haven't seen it again since 2010, but plan on buying the blu ray.

Many people DID see it at the theater. I'm 43, I was about 13, 14 at the time and my mom took me. You have to remember back then, parents raised the kids and made the rules. Very different than kids now that rule their parents and have no respect for their parents rules or wishes, and just throw a tantrum until parents give in in 5 minutes. I think it depended on if parents were willing to see it with their kids, or let their kids see it.

Depends how far above 30, lol.
Per another thread (the "why was it a flop in 1986?" one), a few people who were born but still little kids in 1986, myself included having then being 5/now being 36, are saying they were not even aware of the film until years later. That's my excuse :).
