tex was the least likeable character, not junior.

That makes him worse than a child rapist? A child rapist who was also a complete coward and goldbricker? Sorry, but all of the guys who participated in the rape of the Vietnamese girls were the worst in the bunch. Can't say for sure that Tex wouldn't have been one of them had he not had his foot blown off by O'Neill's grenade, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Junior was mostly harmless. Sure, you're not going to get 100% out of Junior he was a young, poor private or corporal who was drafted and he had been brought up all his life not to trust white people. Still, he donned the uniform.

That excuses him being a rapist? Most of the grunts who served in Vietnam, regardless of race, were young and poor. I will say again, the guys who participated in the rapes were scum, every one of them. And that includes Junior. Tex by contrast was only in the film for like half an hour. Sure, he seemed kind of surly, but I don't see why he should be singled out among some of the a$$holes in that platoon.

Dude, it doesn't matter what it was. Raping children is never acceptable and I can't believe you're making excuses for it.

I'm not making excuses for what the soldiers did. Remember the enemy kidnapped and slaughtered one of their own platoon members. They also boobytrapped a hooch which killed even more members of the squad. Gene Siskel said it best when he said "we always wondered how could our soldiers kill innocent women and children..we can't condone what they did but with the scenes in Platoon we can begin to understand how such a thing could happen".
This is why Platoon is such a great movie.
