Thoughts On Star Trek: Deep Space Nine?

When I said that they were aliens that wear a certain hat, that's writer-speak for how a group of people are generally portrayed in a very monolithic way. The Vulcans, for instance, wear the pure-intellectual hat; the Klingons wear the pure-warrior hat; the Ferengi wear the greedy-capitalist hat. I'm not one to say that this is really all that bad, especially if you're making a space opera and you have bigger stories to tell than to delve into the nuances of every nation.
You don't really understand humor, do you?
Little Green Men
was a great episode, my favorite of the Feringi focused episodes. Having Quark as a regular gave the writers a chance to create a real character rather than a stereotypical character to be used as a plot device.
You are right in that it would take too much time to flesh out characters from every race they meet. The monolithic nature of most races is the only thing that is going to work on episodic television.

During the 30th anniversary of Star Trek in 1996, Deep Space Nine and Voyager both ran special episodes celebrating the anniversary.
Voyager showed "Flashback" which incorporated Tuvok on the USS Excelsior with Sulu and Rand during the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The episode shows what the Excelsior's crew was doing when it was not on screen during the film.
Deep Space Nine showed "Trials and Tribble-ations" which had the USS Defiant going back in time and the DS9 crew interacting with the actual events of The Original Series episode "Trouble with Tribbles." It was done Forrest Gump style and was one of the best episodes of DS9. You want to watch the Tribble episodes back to back with TOS first and then DS9 second, they're both awesome and fun to watch. Charlie Brill plays the same character in both 29 years apart. -

Glad you liked them. It seems to me that you are enjoying all things Star Trek. Just like me. Therefor, if you have the time, you should watch everything you can get your hands on.
And when you're done with your viewing, go right on ahead on read the novels, too. If you're like me, you'll not want to part with these characters once their series are over.
Their stories continue on to this day. It's up to us to keep them alive.

DS9, Voyager, TOS and the like aren't cannon either, foe. TNG is the only Trek that is cannon. The rest is garbage.
Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. -

The Original Series is garbage?
How can that be?
If it isnt canon, how do you explain the appearances of Spock, McCoy, Scott in The Next Generation and Kirk in Star Trek Generations (1994) which is a spin off film of Next Generation. -

XFiles26, don't worry about CIH-whatever his name is, he's a TROLL. Our regular CJH joined in 2005, so I consider him legitimate, but not the user above. You've got to be careful around certain IMDb users, and look at their join date. CIH is 2015, CJH (who is legitimate even though he loves TNG above all else) is 2005.
Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet? -

I'm with you, eyeguy.
I don't worry about which is the best or worst. I love it all.
Always remember to keep Ridin The Storm Out, people! -

I like DS9 and TNG. I like TNG a little more though.
Like Wylde said though, DS9 is a little soap opera-ish.
I think for me, it depends on my mood which I feel like watching.

Agree completely. Though DS9 if nothing else is worth watching just for Garak, as his character development is one of the best in all of ST, and Andrew Robinson did a phenomenal job.
Dukat is a good character for the first 5 1/2 seasons or so. He got lame towards the end of the 6th and was completely ruined during the 7th.
DS9 really got better once they got the Defiant. The underlying religious theme was less enjoyable for me, but I was able to sit through it.
