if Picard and the crew had went through with their original plan in "I Borg"? I read a reddit saying that going along with the plan, and success or failure, would have sent the message to the galaxy that this is what the Federation does. But I feel like the Federation is often in a "damn me if I do, damn if I don't situation" regarding more powerful enemies, especially one that's far more advanced than all the species in the galaxy (the Borg, the Cardassians, the Jem'Hadar, the Dominion, the Breen, Species 8472). In "The Die is Cast" the Cardassians and Romulans do something far worse than what Picard was gonna try to do to the Borg in "I Borg" with Hugh. In their case, the Federation is completely justified. The Federation is about peace and the Borg are trying to hunt them down and destroy their way of life. Whereas the Cardassians and, to a lesser extent, the Romulans, are galactic troublemakers trying to stir up trouble in the galaxy by provoking wars, and the Cardassians taking out the Changeling Great Link had everything to do with taking out a competetor and it was not about preserving innocent lives of their species, as the Federation would do. And what happened? The Federation still were dealt the blame for what happened and subjected to war. The only foolhardy thing that Sisko did was that they sent the Defiant to send a message of peace to the Jem'Hadar. They should have sent a Galaxy class for that mission. It did send the wrong message and maybe rubbed the Jem'Hadar the wrong way. But, overall, I understand Section 31.
