I am a bit confused about the timing. This is how I understood it (in this order):
He at some point got drafted and went to war.
There was some accident.
He was sent home and eventually moved to that hospital.
On New Year's Eve, 1943, that man paid a bribe and took him from hospital to Time Square.
They picked a random soldier (Harold Angel).
The performed that service where he ate the heart.
Before he could work things out, he got drafted.
Now it seems like he got drafted a lot earlier since he had been in the war and an accident happened so he was sent back to the US. They took him from the hospital and then the satanic ritual happened, so I do not understand the above as things seem out of chronological order. -

I agree. The timing though is confusing for more reasons that these.
We know that Johnny Favorite had about the same age with Harold Angel and that Harold Angel was born on 1918.
We don't know the exact time that Johnny Favorite did the contract with the Devil but we do know that he was already famous when he fathered Epiphany, that she was 17 on 1955 and so born probably on 1938-39 when Johnny Favorite should be 20 years old and already a famous singer.
Kruzmark says that he was the one who introduced him to his daughter because he was already very powerful and had already sold his soul to the Devil, while we learn from Harold Angel's girlfriend ( the one that worked in the newspaper) that they met at a high school prom.
I don't know about you but the age profiles look quite improbable to me. I mean to be already famous at the age of 20 ( even with Devils help) and have already make the contract ( at what age? ) and able to meet Kruzmark who was the big money of Louisiana who introduced him to his daughter at a ..high school prom.. Sounds good, as for the face - the reason nobody recognises him is because he had extensive facial reconstruction (hinted at by the stitch scars on one side of Rourke's face), it would appear that the new face resembles neither Johnny nor Angel.
