    It was probably acceptable in the San Fernando Valley.

      There was an androgyny thing going on in the 80s; at least among musicians. Think of all those girly-looking hair bands like Poison, Prince, etc. Not saying you wouldn't get your butt kicked in high school, but I can see that being the norm in LA night life.

        Some guys definitely wore eyeliner in that era, obviously influenced by the "Glam Rock" bands, ex. Poisen, Twisted Sister, Skid row, Cinderella, et al.

            Lots of guys wore them, also but not only Goths. Wearing eyeliner as a guy (usually in clubs and concerts, not at school, but there were kids who did) was totally acceptable if you were part of any of the ubiquitous Post-Punk/Industrial/Gothic/New Romantic/New Wave scene back then.

              Yep. Totally "normal" in LA. I was just a kid, but I too remember it. My parents were older, and my dad would comment on it. Thought it was just wrong, lol.

                my mother was not a fan of the eyeliner either. always had to leave the house first before getting ready to club.
                Prince got Apollonia wearing eyeliner so it had to be okay, right?! right?! lol

                  It wasn't normal in clubs (unless u were in a glam rock band) in Florida either. I remember thinking how freaking weird it was. Downey shows up in Weird Science wearing eye liner also.

                    Can't believe no one's given the correct answer to the OP's question. Julian isn't bi or gay. He only wears the eyeliner when he's meeting Rip's "clients" for blowjobs. Or am I misremembering? Are there any scenes where he's just willingly wearing eyeliner for fashion reasons? Seems like something they just talked the male prostitutes into doing to make them more appealing. "Dolling them up", so to speak.

                      Julian needed the help because he was a mess! Only his youth would make it worthwhile! He looked greasy and worn out; sorta like a real HO! I really want a remake with all the sleazy scenes done
                      "to the limit!"
                      The sequel would be nice as well;
                      "Imperial Bedrooms!"
