I couldn't wait for it, the 1 1/2 stars Newsday rated it didn't dissuade me from rushing out to see the first screening.
i rode my bike to the mall, my first movie I saw by myself, to my surprise the theater rated it PG-13, i was expecting to have to sneak in, i was only 15, loved it then, still love it now -

Saw that one in the theaters as well. I've never heard that LB caused it to bomb.
I always thought they were very different, other than them being about modern day vampires.
Near Dark was a much smaller film and wasn't really expected or meant to be a big blockbuster. -

I saw it opening day and it was rate R, so not sure where the PG-13 rating cam from. I know because I was hassled on age and almost didn't see it. It's a great story, didn't like the script. Joel did a great job with this one.

I also saw it when it came out. Loved it but was surprised by the R rating. It certainly didn't deserve it. Caught it on TV last year around Halloween. Aside from one instance of swearing that was bleeped out it was uncut and this wasn't on cable! It would easily get a PG or PG-13 rating today. It's clearly aimed at teenagers.

I saw it completely by mistake. I had NO intention of seeing it but my sister had her first date and the boy wanted to take her to the movies. The only way my mom would allow it was if I would chaperone because I was 19 at the time. Well my sister chose The Lost Boys. Like I said I didn't want to see it, but when I finally got into it I really liked it. I liked it so much I went to see it again and then I loved it. I have owned The Lost Boys in EVERY format it has been sold in. VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, and now Blu-Ray. My children love the movie and the music and the poster hangs proudly in my home. I've been 'lost' for years now.
