What is it with 80's flicks and that theme where someone creates this vocal sound repeatedly over a synthesised beat?
Is it a popular track used in many films, or a trait of a particular composer? It's been driving me nuts for years, please explain!

It's the song "Oh Yeah" from a German group called Yello who were particularly popular in the 1980s. The song was used in quite a few films, including Secret of my Success and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Yello wasn't popular in the '80s at all. Just this one silly song was used in a few movies, and nobody knew of who did it.

I think it's awful. It used to be on some commercial for Kit Kat or something too.

Isn't the most famous use in Ferris Beuller's day off.
