Saw it in the theater, hated it.
Just saw it on cable the other day. It's still awful.
Hard to believe you could make a movie with Michael J. Fox and Helen Slater and have it be pretty much unwatchable.

the movie is incredibly cliche ridden in a completly 80,s only kinda way right down to the soundtrack with those quintesential 80,s power balads full of fake emotion
its dated horribly and helen slater has always been a terrible actress

I love this movie, because Michael J Fox was the star - and it's actually a fun comedy.
You see, in the beginning, all was well. There was harmony. There was balance.

Then you have seen very few movies. Please check out a place called Blockbuster Video. You can rent movies from them and they just happen to have a few you may not have seen, except for the Ernest ones in the comedy section.

I gotta admit that I have always loved this movie, regardless of how one views it on a "film" scope. This movie made me want to be a NY "businessman." It wasn't until I became one that I realized how much I hate it..

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I remember liking it when it first came out, but when I watch it now I realize how bad it actually is.

LOL It's decent for a 80's movie enough said but falls apart completely once they found out he's Charlton with the horrible "happy ending".

Not my favorite 80's movie but it isnt bad. I start to lose interest around the half way mark but I enjoy watching it up until then.

Totaly agree - it is a shocking movie - poor acting, REALLY bad continuity and the clothes WOW - but this was a film I LOVED as a 13 year old back in the 80's & watching it now takes me right back to them great days - films are not all about oscars - they are all about emotions, memories and enjoyment - so take out of this film what you will - personally - its amazing!

With all the awful movies out there, you must have a very short list of films if this makes it into the top tier of "worst movies ever seen"
Ok, the acting isn't the greatest but in a film like this, does it need to be?
It entertaining, light hearted fun not some overblown, pretensious clap trap and for me does the job very nicely.

I agree it's a light hearted romp. I saw this in the theaters and while it's not very good, suffering from cliche, a boys version of Working Girl there's plenty of redeeming qualities not to mention the amazing line: "That's a Ming vase you bitch!"
                              I love it!

Ahh, the proverbial "one of the worst ever movie's" thread that is on EVERY single IMDB board. As others have mentioned, if this is the worst movie you have ever seen, then you need to watch more films (online streaming should get you up to speed nicely). Also consider yourself extremely lucky.
I have seen some truly dreadful movies, but this far from the worst. That dubious distinction is reserved for "gems" with no redeeeming qualities, zero technical skills and 50 cent production values, and acting so wooden it makes your average porno seem oscar caliber by comparison. Any 1980's film starring MJF is at least watchable, and this film was a solid 6/10 for the entertainment value alone.

Honestly, I think the worst thing about this movie is Christy/Helen Slater. I don't get her character at all. She's frosty and aloof toward Brantley from the very beginning, when he hasn't done a thing to her. I also don't really get any chemistry off the two of them as a couple, although that's not for lack of trying on Fox's part. I just don't find Helen Slater to be a very good actor (have you ever seen Supergirl? Yeesh!) Still, I do enjoy the movie on the whole - it's a campy 80's comedy, and it's fun.

I agree it is awful, it wasn't great at the time it was made and has aged horribly. Slater and Fox aren't any good either, and this film isn't the only example. There was no reason for Slater to ever have a movie career and Fox never escaped variations on Alex Keaton.

It was 2nd rate when it came out but now it is embarrassing to watch. It has aged terribly and everyone involved should disavow their work in it. It was basically Alex Keaton goes to the big city.

Wrong. It's a fun and decent movie. Captures the 80s well. Love the nostalgia. Go watch Bad Boys 2
