Is it just me or was the "We ain't found beep!" remark a bit over the top in the combing the dessert scene?
I thought the afro-pick part was actually pretty funny (one of the few redeeming jokes in this movie) but then it was immediate ruined with a super stereotypical line that's way beyond OK (and should not have been acceptable even in 1987). How did this get through editing?

It's a Mel Brooks film. Irreverence is to be expected. The big, black helmet simulating an Afro was more stereotypical than what was said.

Regardless if his post was accurate or not, racism DOES exist and people have been known to express such racism in any given media. You do realize this, right?

Y'all want to know what actual "racism in Spaceballs" would be? If Dark Helmet would have said to the "black" Spaceballs, "you guys aren't doing a good job because you're black." THAT'S racism.
This was just a play on a stereotype. But douchebags like the OP call it "RACISM" so it has teeth but guess what they say it sooo facking much that it's gotten to the point where nobody gives a flying rat's ass.
