More cultural than racial, isn't it? A lot of people do talk like that, stereotype or not, and he was written to be like those people. I thought it was hilarious.
Sad story. You got a smoke?

I am not African- American, but I do use a pick. I have curly hair and it works better than an average comb, at least for me.

                  Is it just me or
It's just you. (Really, I recommend you not preface any comments with this statement.)
I love that you bring up this as a serious problem while calling the comb an afro-pick.
Isn't it racist to call such a comb by this name?
Because, like, you know they were good for 80s style spiral perms and crimping and stuff. I generally think of this object as a "big bad perm bangs 80's hair fluffer". I find it disturbing that you think this is "one of the few redeeming jokes in this movie"
It's such a throwaway laugh. They were getting nagged - and they were stuck with this frigging narrow comb.
Eww I hate having to explain a joke from Spaceballs.
Anyway. No one says "afro-pick" anymore. How old are you?

Not sure if you're kidding or not, but anyway, this joke is what I think of when I think of a BIG laugh from the audience. When I saw this as a kid, the audience absolutely erupted.

Gimme a break. Yeah, that show, too. Back when little racial jabs were accepted. And they're funny.
