they left her to watch over Mary. When they get back they see that she is tied up, the apartment is a wreck and Mary was placed in the back room
There was a note "Next time we're taking the Baby"
Okay so what happened, who left that message and tied Mrs. Hathaway up? -

Ghost Boy saw who did it, but to this day he still won't tell me.
Fun fact: Ghost Boy did tell me that, although he was underage at the time of his earthly demise, a woman from the DNC went to his grave stone and registered him to vote for Hillary Clinton.
