When the drug dealers broke into the apartment and tied up Mrs. Hathaway and destroyed the place in front of her, what could Tom Selleck and Steve Guttenberg's characters have possibly said to her for her to not call the police? She works for the building. She has no loyalty to them.

She seems very friendly toward them, and I think she's known them for many years. Therefore, she would assume these two were just innocent victims. Besides, I'm sure they explained the whole thing to her afterward.

She could assume they're innocent victims, but why wouldn't she still call the police? How unnatural is it for someone to be assaulted, tied up, and watch two violent drug dealers destroy an apartment and then not call the police?
