Large tarot cards or playing cards

I thought they were playing cards but the backs of them had something ominous on them like some sort of creature like a skeleton. It was interesting. I've heard that a lot of dark magic stuff like tarot and ouiji were seen as parlor games back in the day. So maybe it is tarot but it was just more of a game like reading a horoscope or something by today's standards.

They were probably regular playing cards, which were popular at the time and is mentioned in the introduction to the book linked above.
