Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — A Fish Called Wanda

    Tyek1230 — 11 years ago(March 31, 2015 10:15 PM)

One of the biggest problems I had with this movie was how Ken got the short end of the stick throughout the entire movie, up to and including Archie and Wanda taking off with the entire loot for themselves.
Ken was the only one loyal to George, and while he had his problems with Otto, he never once treated Wanda bad in any way and never thought she was in on any of this. And it's Ken who has to do George's dirty work (in killing the old lady), gets all of his fish eaten, and then doesn't even make out with any of his earnings from the robbery (because Archie and Wanda cleaned out the safety deposit box at the end of the movie).
So, do you people think that maybe after a few months or so, Archie/Wanda may have returned to London and met up with Ken? Maybe gave him some of his share? Or do you think they would have been cold enough to have completely left him behind?
And on another note, what's to stop George from ratting out both Wanda and Otto about the robbery? Wouldn't Wanda be a criminal (even though they went to South America); you'd think she'd be hunted for the rest of her life.

Nothing's to stop George, although I have my own reasons for thinking he wouldn't (see my upcoming post).
If Wanda and Otto get ratted out though, I think that would rule out her coming back to England. As for Archie, he might. He seems the only one to have anything resembling a level head about all this.

Loot or no loot, I always thought Ken ended up happy anyway. Not only did he lose his stutter but he avoided any prosecution and became Master of Ceremonies at the London Sea World, something suiting him since he loved animals so much.

I find it amusing that you feel sorry for Ken: he not only participated in an armed robbery, which earns him our sympathy; and he not only conspired with George to pull a double cross, which really makes us fond of him; but the poor fellow committed a murder as well, and he clearly deserves special consideration for that. It is not enough that he never went to prison, that he got rid of his stutter, and that he became the master of ceremonies for Londons Sea World. If he didnt get a cut of the take, then it just isnt fair.

The whole idea was how everybody double crossed each other and at the end, Archie leaves his wife and daughter (as well as his client) for Wanda with the jewels. They went to South America where they couldn't be found and Otto had to just get on with his life. As for George, he probably had a mistrial and then a new one where he was found guilty and locked up.

It is hardly relevant so what does it matter? Ken is the screw-up and that's his shtick.

Just watched this movie for the first time and I agree.
                While Ken
                did
do his share of dirt, all 3 of the other characters spend much more screen time being manipulative, greedy, and a bunch of
                "A5SH0000LES"
throughout the entire movie. While, of course, it made for good entertainment, it also made the ending a bit discouraging for me, hence, I gave it a lower rating.
                6.5/10
People hate what's popular and people jump on bandwagons. The rest of us are in the middle. Done.
