I used to rent this on VHS from time to time (20 years ago!), and it became one of my favorite movies. Years later, after it had come out on DVD, I noticed the PG-13 rating on it, and thought that was odd. I was sure the VHS I'd rented numerous times was rated R. And then I watched the DVD, and sure enough, there were scenes missing.
However, at least one of the missing scenes is something that I now see others talking about in various posts, so now I'm really confused, since it's apparently on the DVD now, even though the rating remains PG-13. (I'm referring to the scene where the Klown uses the cop like a ventriloquist's dummy that was missing from the DVD I saw, as was a nude scene or two.)
Does anyone know for sure if there are different cuts/releases of this movie? Was there a rated-R version?
Oh, one thing I do remember now. I later found a VHS copy, and it also was missing the scenes and had the same content as the DVD I later saw. If the movie was edited, it happened during the VHS period. -

It's been so many years that it's getting harder and harder to remember details. The thing that gets me the most is how I can't find any references to an R-rated version, which I absolutely swear I remember renting. Repeatedly. I remember how surprised I was years later when I saw it again and it was listed as PG-13.
I suppose I may be remembering some stuff wrong, but that just doesn't feel right, since I recall noting the differences (things I'd seen that were now missing) at the time when I re-watched it later.
As for a bootleg, not sure if that was directed at me or not, but if so, nope, I used to rent it at a big rental store on VHS. There weren't any DVDs available for rental at the time. As for the DVD I rented years later, it would seem that it's just a standard release, based on user comments. -

The DVD that is currently released is intact, but I don't recall any nude scenes. I do have in my posession a recording of the television cut, which is edited for violence (the shot the biker's head falling into a trash bin and the shot of the klown shaking his bloody hand clean after the cop dummy falls to the floor) but has two deleted scenes intergrated back in. They can be seen on the DVD. If you are curious, its the one where Debbie talks about her fear of clowns and the tight rope gag.

I'm watching it on netflix and I'll let you know if I see those scenes or any nude scenes
But, I'm wondering if maybe you got a bootleg DVD? There was a while on ebay where everyone was selling them. What do you think? -

There wasn't any nudity per se. But fairly early in the movie when they show the klowns knocking on strangers' doors to collect victims they show a parody of one of the best known porno movie clichespizza delivery guy or klown in this case. And the young girl who answers the door is in an opaque yet fairly see-through short night gown or neglige or call it what you will. You can see her nipples/areolas.
She opens the door holding a glass of wine and answers, "Pizza?", in a doubtful intonation.
Speaking of that girl, does any one know her character name OR the name of the actress playing her? -

How did I never pick up on the fact that that scene was supposed to be a porn parody?

This isn't really related, but some of you might be interested in knowing that there actually is a porn parody of this movie called "This Isn't Killer Klowns from Outer Space."

The ratings are strange in the UK as well Amazon has the BluRay rated as an 18. Imdb says its a 15 and love film is renting the bluray as a 12. I rented the bluray from love film and the decapiation is there.
