I don't know.
My theory is that this film is about how easy it is to take something from somebody who is different from you. The filmmakers give the antagonists positive qualities such as their humorous and clumsy nature, which makes me think that the antagonists were not intended to be evil. They are trying to ensure the continuity of their own existence, and they do not realize the evil of what they are doing because of how immensely different humans are from their own species.
Raises many comparisons with real world events. What do you think?
