      As a horror film: 2
      As a comedy: 8 or 9
I'm not completely sure, but I think it is funny on purpose. Even if not, it's still fun to watch.

By jove! I think he's got it. One of the problems with the film is that audiences think it is a straight horror film, when it is really a horror comedy with more than one type of comedy at play in it. From the verbal comedy of Eve Trent's (Oxenberg's) "Me spotted dick!" and Lord James' (Grant's) "Slither in!" to the vaudeville comedy of Lady Sylvia (Donohoe) and Kevin (Pitt) to the drawingroom comedy of Lord James (Grant) and Lady Sylvia (Donohoe.) Actually, Ken Russell, the director, played records of Sir Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence for Hugh Grant and Amanda Donohoe to give them some idea of how he wanted the scene to play out. No, it is a comedy, and one of the better ones out there (IMHO.)

9/10 tempted to give it 10 though. This is my all time favourite Ken Russell film. It contains everything a Ken Russell film should have, classic! I've loved it since the first moment I channel-hopped onto it as a teenager. He is an acquired taste and I can see why some people just don't 'get' this film, he is in the marmite genre.

hands-down my favorite Ken Russell film. Takes itself just seriously enough to be campy without turning into farce. The humor is VERY dry, and a great soundtrack to top it off.

Loved it. I gave it a nine. It was well directed and very memorable. Only reason I gave this a nine and not a ten is because I thought the ending was sort of a let down.
I'm just a guy that likes horror flicks.

On a scale of 1 to 10, a 5 is equal to average, not crap as you say. I gave it a 4 which I describe as slightly below average but better than crap. I would rate a crap movie at 3 and below.

10/10. I absolutely love Amanda Donohoe in this movie, and Ken Russell gives the movie a lot of fun and style.

                            1. I love it! Just thought the end was a bit abrupt. And I adore Peter Capaldi in this, not least for his bagpipe playing! 🙂

I rated 8/10, I think it was a fantastic comedy, I would have rated only 5 if I thought the film-makers weren't in on the joke, but there were plenty of signs that they were.

6 out of ten. I enjoyed it. I liked the tone/atmosphere of the film. Good cast. Amusing accents and characters. It held well. I would recommend it.

7/10 = A highly entertaining, camp, comic-horror. Plus, parts of the film were shot on location in my local area (such as the cavern scenes).
