I love both dearly but I gotta say Elm Street 4 wins here let me explain.
1)Better plot structure.
2)Better characters.
3)More innovative scenes
4)Better atmosphere.
Part 3 still is groovy and rocks but it's very weak compared to the other Elm Street films feels like a Kiddie film at moments but it still rocks. -

part 3 is the best ANOES sequel by far, it has the best and most creative scenes on the franchise and the most memorable deaths, but Dream master is also a great sequel and much better than Dream child.

Like a lot of people I used to prefer Dream Warriors over Dream Master, but as I've grown to enjoy the series as a whole more and more over time I find myself with a newfound appreciation for Part 4. It's the sequel that has the most fun within itself and is so visually captivating as well.
The more I watch it, the more I find to enjoy and by this point I would consider it my favorite of all the sequels. So no, you are definitely not alone. -

I understand where you are coming from.
I think part 4 is more fun to watch, but when it comes to creepiness and scariness, I say 3 beats it, and that's what I want when it comes to horror movies.
3 also had great actors (Patricia Arquette and Laurence Fishburne) and old characters, Nancy and her dad, return. Also, the Psychiatric Hospital is a scary setting. Someone said the people in part 4 were more interesting, but I disagree. You had Taryn, Will, Kincaid, etc and some of the most memorable deaths. Jennifer and the TV and Philip's marionette puppet death!
I would say 4 is a very strong sequel, but 3 is still my favorite movie. Maybe even better than one. But it's just my opinion. -

4 is more likable an fun an has a better lead character alice is better developed then an more interesting then either nancy or kristen in 3 but 3 is the more solid movie because the characters in 3 have a bite more depth an are slightly more interesting an the film has a better horror feel freddys death in 4 is better then the one in 3 but his death in 3 is slightly better story wise as a horror film 3 wins with a slight edge although 4 is a totally different film 4 feels like a horror comedy comic film action

Hi Nateaguerra i felt the same as you before i don't hate part 4 as much as i did before but the reason why i wasn't a fan of it when i first saw it was cause i love Dream Warriors so much its my Fav Nightmare on Elm Street Film and when there wiped out in part 4 it was as Rodney Eastman said it felt like a cheap trick i always felt they should have only had Kristen bite the dust then her Powers goes to Alice then you would have Joey Kincaid Rick and Alice as The Dream Masters.

I love both of them. Part 3 has the better story, writing, characters, and more creative death sequences. But Part 4 is one of the most entertaining of the series. It's just a fun film all the way around. Other than the remake there is no Nightmare on Elm Street film I dislike.

Both are great, but I narrowly prefer part 3 for its tension and suspense. Part 4 seems like it was inspired by the Die Hard/Lethal Weapon types of films that were happening at that time and played more into 'action,' which was fine. Again, both are great.

Part 3 is better, mostly for the better plot and I love the hospital setting as well. 4 on the other hand has the better heroine, better soundtrack and better ending, so its a close call between the two of them.

Part 4 is my favorite sequel. Everyone seems to love part 3 the most but I've never been that big of a fan of part 3.
