Part 1: 9/10
Part 2: 7/10
Part 3: 8/10
Part 4: 8/10
Part 5: 6/10
Part 6: 7/10
Part 7 (New Nightmare): 9/10.
New Nightmare was the only other one that scared me as much as the first one did. The others were (in a cheesy 80's way) actually gruesome, I almost threw up on Two and Five (Five was Unrated, super rare to find, by the way.)
But the rest were pretty good.

- New Nightmare - 10/10
Something about this movie just appeals to me. It's very dark and serious, which was a complete contrast to the three preceding movies. Even though it was essentially a non-canon spin-off, it was a fresh new direction for the series and was very creative. It had a lot of eery moments and the references to the original movie were great. This was also Heather Langenkamp's best performance out of the three Nightmare movies she appeared in. Even looking past the fact that she's playing herself, she is very believable and solid in NN, whereas she had some very awkward moments in the other two movies. - A Nightmare on Elm Street - 9/10
It's a classic, but the ending (i.e. the scene after Nancy turns her back on Freddy and wins) has always pissed me off. It just ends the movie on a sour note, leaves the viewer totally confused (or having to interpret what just happened, which is a strange way to end a horror movie) and was totally ignored by the future sequels. Also, the acting in the movie was a bit off in some places mostly from Langenkamp, which isn't a good thing when you remember that she played the lead character. But, really, other than the horrible last scene and some questionable deliveries from Langenkamp, this movie is tightly-placed, gruesome fun. - Dream Warriors - 9/10
I really enjoy this sequel. Despite having seven teenagers and many additional characters, each person is at least somewhat fleshed out. I watched this movie yesterday and found it much darker and sadder than I remembered, feeling sympathy for every character who got killed off. Like the original, however, NOES3 loses a point for the ending. The light turning on inside the paper house, as if to say "IS Freddy dead?," was way tacky, especially considering what it represented in the original drafts of the script (Neil and Nancy meeting in Neil's dream). Nancy's demise was somewhat insulting (Nancy, the closest person there is to an expert on Krueger, thinks he's gone just because Joey screamed?), and not showing on-screen that Kristen really did dream Nancy "into a beautiful dream," adds to the sour taste provided by the ending in the final cut of the film. - Freddy's Revenge - 8/10
I actually like this movie a lot and wish the future sequels didn't ignore its existence entirely. Of course, a lot of moments intended to be scary, like the exploding parakeet, are just laugh-out-loud funny (which I think adds to the film's entertainment value), and a lot of people probably don't like the gay overtones (though I did), but I thought the movie had a pretty interesting plot with a decent execution. Jesse was just hilarious; the movie would have been even better if the writers just flat-out made him gay. The finale was pretty cliche, though, and Lisa was way too perfect "Mary Sue" popped into my mind more than once while watching her. - Dream Master - 7/10
- Dream Child - 7/10
These entries are the point where the series both starts to stray from the original storyline and slide downhill. While both movies do have their own strengths and weaknesses, it's safe to say that their biggest selling point is the solid character development and effectiveness of Alice, as she singlehandedly carries these films on her back. However, both movies also provide very subpar excuses for Freddy to return. Dog urine and Amanda giving birth to Freddy again in the dream world? I mean, yeah, it's really Jacob that brought Freddy back in Dream Child, but that scene makes it look like otherwise.
Individually, NOES4 has good effects, good music and likable characters, including great character development for Alice, but it also features a rather anticlimactic ending, and I can't stand Tuesday Knight as Kristen (or Kristen in general in NOES4 Arquette Kristen and Knight Kristen have very different personalities, and Knight's was a paranoid cow) nor the fact that the Dream Warriors basically return for extended cameos. It really cheapens the previous movie.
Meanwhile, NOES5 has a decent plot, as well as atmospheric sets and direction, but Alice's new circle of friends is rather uninteresting (good characters are usually the first thing I need for a good movie, and Dan, Mark and Yvonne just don't cut it; though I liked Greta, she got picked off too early without being given much development, not to mention that she died way too soon after Dan). There are also a few holes within the continuity of the series (How/why was Westin Hills abandoned so quickly? Did Alice's NOES5 friends even know of her NOES4 friends?), which hurt the film. - Freddy's Dead - 3/10
This is honestly the only Nightmare that I dislike. The characters are boring (with the most annoying of the four teens being the only one to survive), the comedy is juvenile, the 3D was gimmicky, the timeline of the series is thrown into whack, and the movie completely ignores not only the rules laid down by Nightmare 1 but by the past sequels. At least Dream Master provided a reason for F
