EVERYONE is saying the book is so much better.. I remember reading the book.. although its been a while.. actually just went to go see if it was available digitally (its not.. at least on Kindle). But.. I always thought, or maybe it was too long ago, but I always regarded Pin as one of the much BETTER adaptations from book to screen.. guess I'll have to re read and rewatch.. but I do remember like the movie quite a bit.. although from what I remember.. they did NOT give the father quite enough time to.. really establish himself as he was in the book.. THAT I do remember.. that the father was much more important to Leon as was Pin.. which.. did get as I recall a bit of a short part of the film, although it would have been a much slower film.. so I can understand that.

Doesn't this on DVD have a commentary with the director? Surely he discusses this part??
I'm going with what most people think which is the nurse was using Pin for her own sexual pleasure in some sort of way. I haven't read the book but someone mentioned that Ursula has 'sex' with Pin??
My name is John Kimble and I love my car. -

I'm not a psychology expert by any sort of stretch, but I thought it was quite obvious that the scene was supposed to show how the nurse having sex with Pin really screwed up Leon and traumatized him (and triggered even more protective feelings towards Pin, like when he didn't want to remove the towel), and top that off with the clean freak upbringing and repression, it's no wonder he turned into such a creep.

At first I thought that it was actually Leon's Father having sex with the nurse and that Leon somehow imagined it was Pin
But then later in the film, the Father uses Pin to teach his kids about sex, so I'm guessing the doll was "anatomically accurate" and the nurse took advantage of that.

My opinion, the scene was literal, but this is an interesting take on it. I wouldn't rule it out.
The kid was always a nutter either way though. Some kinds are born, more than made. The specifics of his upbringing made him worse, but they didn't create his illness.
