I absolutely love this movie!! I couldnt appreciate it fully when I was younger but now, it totally speaks to me in a way I never thought it would. There is something about this film that really delves deep into the mind of a "happily " married man and the turmoil one goes through when they are trying to make sense of the new world they find themselves in. Its done in such a hilarious way, yet never going too overboard to lose the actual message being said, I cant help but find this film John Hughes absolute best!
Does anyone else find themselves in tears come the end? It's such a powerful scene when his world could be turned upside down literally in a heartbeat, it really is at that point when the realization of how much you truly do love someone comes in and everything else that you thought matters really doesnt. Such a sweet, funny and REAL storyjust cannot say enough good stuff
Side note, the dreams/day dreams/fantasiesbrilliant way to visually show a feeling or a thought through the main characters eyes, I think i got every one and what he was trying to conveyabsolute perfection.
Your interior decorating tips have always been appreciated, 007. -

I'm watching it right now on CATV 6 mos after the OP and completely agree. Jake's daydreamsI hear myself laughing out loud:
-"I quit taking the pill 3 months ago." Cut to: Jake strapped into a rocket sled headed for a concrete wall.- Jake learns he's got a low sperm count. Cut to: Kristy's mom and dad in the dark with miner's headlights standing over their bed and instructing how to perform coitus with the sfx of bed springs.
- "Nobody is touching my balls."
- Giving his sperm sample in the OB-GYN office and everyone breaking out in laughter.
- The lawn mowing neighbors become a Busby Berkley dance number.
And while the labor pains are eating her alive cut to a the static shot of a two delicate porcelain kissing bunnies on the hospital stand.
And, of course, Kate Bush's song playing at a critical time in the story.
STUFF like THAT.
It's honest, authentic, silly and real. Today's raunchy comedies are so unfunny. When I say I'm going to a certain flick and pals say, "it's hysterical! You'll pee your pants!" I go. It's not. It's cheap laughs from shock/raunch. Like The Emperor's New Clothes; i.e., everyone THINKS it should be considered great comedy. It'summnot.
John Hughes really showed how it was done
