How to apologize for anything: Lessons From Sam the Butcher
In 1988 The Brady (Bunch) family got together (minus the original Cindy) for A Very Brady Christmas. Last night the show was on ABC Family, and I watched at, mesmerized. I was shocked when Peter used the word 'hell,' saddened that Marsha and Jan both married jerks, amused that Greg was a Gynecologist and hurt that Sam the Butcher was cheating on Alice.
The show was full of nonsensical ramblings and random adventures strung together with a terrible plot, terrible character development (nevermind the fact that we already knew the characters) and terrible, well, everything about it was terrible. Yeah, it was awful. I don't know what I would have expected it to be great. Given how awful it was, why couldn't I take my eyes off the screen?
Because it was The Brady Family!
I learned something last night. At the beginning Alice is sad, devastated, even, after Sam the Butcher, now her husband, leaves her for a younger woman. It turns out he had been cheating on her for some time. He left her a note on butcher paper, indicating that he was leaving Alice for this other woman. Alice, as might be expected, is devastated.
At the end of the movie Sam shows up in a Santa Claus outfit. Nobody, including Alice, realized who this character in the outfit is. Then he pulls down his beard, revealing himself, Sam the adulterous Butcher. He apologizes, "Alice, I'm sorry."
Alice says, "Never do that again." Sam says he won't, and all is well. Everyone is happyjust like that (just like all the Brady Bunch episodes, only this time with adultery).
The moral of the story: I think you can do pretty much anything, as long as you show up later dressed as Santa Claus and offer an apology. Thanks Brady Family for another lesson learned!
Actually, at the end of the movie I sat there saying, "What the? Did that just happen?" It was very amusing. -

And don't forget that if your husband/father is trapped in a collapsed building under a pile of metal and concrete, all you have to do it sing "O Come All Ye Faithful," and he will immediately be freed!
