Homer was in no danger. We've already seen him survive getting crushed by a car in "Homer Simpson in: Kidney Trouble".

Or something Stewie would do. Bart can be such a dick to Homer a lot of times. I'm not just thinking of all the times he call him "Homer" instead of "dad".
