I kind of figured that it figured into Harry Shearer's contract negotiation. He was so adamant that he was done with the Simpsons, and then he signs back on. Of course, he's probably receiving a REALLY big paycheck too, but with the promise that it'll only be a couple more years. At least, that was my guesstimate.

Yeah I hope they end after 30. Not that I want the show to end, I still love it, but I really think it's time to call it quits. The actors' voices are definitely starting to show their age, and even though they could probably find good replacements, that's not something I would want to see happen.
Plus, 30 is a nice number to end it on. I would've been fine with 25 too lol.
And I'm also holding out hope for a giant complete series DVD or Blu-ray box set. I'm still mad they stopped making them. -

I hope for that mega boxset. However i expect they might have it in half sets 1-15 and 16-30.
I hope treehouse of horror double ups in season 30 with 2. So we have exactly 30 episodes. That deserves its own boxset. -

Even so, this show hasn't been on the air for as long as Sesame Street has been on the air.
Indeed, 28 years is an impressive run for sure, but there are
a lot
of shows that have lasted longer. Meet the Press [
the
longest running], Saturday Night Live, Wonderful World of Disney, ABC & CBS Nightly News, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, TODAY, Face the Nation, The Tonight Show & many more & then bringing international shows into the mix there's Blue Peter, Panorama, Coronation Street, Tatort, Sazae-san, Hockey Night in Canada, Four Corners, Play School, Neighbours, Sabado Gigante & even more.
As for the original post, I think people are assuming it'll end at 30, there's already been two renegotiation snafus, a regular voice actor's death plus it's a milestone anniversary since like it was said, it's a nice round number instead of having to say 31 or 32 years although people would probably just say it lasted 'over three decades' assuming it doesn't go til 35 seasons. -

It don't know if it's right to call a news broadcast "a show" in the terms that it's like a T.V. show.
Sure it is, there's no more generic term than 'TV show'. Without consulting a dictionary definition, a 'TV Show' is typically anything that airs regularly during a set time either daily, weekly or even yearly on a network, but even that's not set in stone now-a-days since Orange is the New Black for example is considered a TV show & it airs whenever someone wants to watch it on the Internet.
All live news programs like ABC World News Tonight for example, have directors, producers, lighting people, set designers, visual effects people, editors, makeup, wardrobe, camera operators, the same type people that work on The Big Bang Theory or Sleepy Hollow for example. They even have credited composers who made their theme songs, or musical intros to be exact.
The only main difference I can think of offhand might be the people who write the copy for the broadcasters to read, it's possible they wouldn't be described as writing a 'script' as it's traditionally thought of for TV.
With the exception of things like the World Series or the Super Bowl, I'd think live games aren't 'TV shows' even though they still have directors & producers that get the game on the air. They aren't scheduled regular airings and no one ever says, "Hey did you see that TV show last night starring the Patriots & the Steelers" -

To think, even though Pokmon has been on for over 15 years, I find it hard to believe it hasn't been on for as long as The Simpsons, because it (Pokmon) has been on for a heck of a long time.

In one couch intro they predicted the show would go on for another 10 thousand years, and everyone has chips planted in their heads forcing them to continue watching and to purchase "Sampsons" products. I hope that doesn't actually happen
