A few. There was a legal case that I think was kind of interesting. The guy who cut my eye was going to sue me. I "over-retaliated" basically. When I get hurt I tend to go into a kind of trance, where instinct just takes over. I fractured his skull by driving it into the barricade by his hair one too many times. Not a massive break in the skull but a good three inch crack in the brain pan.
He dropped the lawsuit. It turns out that about four months later, he picked
another
fight, this time with a guy who put him in a wheelchair. The way my lawyer explained it, if he simultaneously sued both of us, it can be mentioned that he has other lawsuits going because the medical records have to be differentiated before the experts in the courtroom (i.e. what injury is sustained from what incident). It looks really bad to a jury when that happens. So he dropped the charges against me in order to keep details of the x-rays from his case against me out of the other one. -

Where in Okinawa were you stationed? I lived on Camp Lester for three years, nearest to Foster and about a half hour from Kadena and Futenma.

I remember Kinser. It was barracks housing chiefly, right? I thought it was the base that housed that awful "The Spot" food court, but that was Foster.
What did you think of it, despite spending nearly half your time elsewhere?

I preferred Korea. I was with CSSD-31 in Korea first which was out in the dirt, where I like to be. Kinser had me put into H&S Battalion which was ultimate REMF work, although I worked up in the G-3 which gave me a lot of insight into the way high ranking officers work. I was single so I only did a year there. I had a better time afterward because even though I didn't like California, on Pendleton they put me in 11th Marines and I much preferred being in Division to FSSG. But that's all another story. Overall Kinser is a nice base, but it wasn't where my happiest memories of the Corps were formed.
As for Okinawa itself, I didn't really start having fun until we got into going to the Habu/Mongoose fights. There was this little village right out of Karate Kid 2 where they held 5 fights every Saturday night. Everyone always bets on the snake because it isn't really about winning the bet, and the Mongoose pays out practically nothing anyway. It's about always betting on the underdog and the fun of cheering for the "local" fighter. Maybe I'm telling you something you already know since for all I know you might have gone to the fights yourself. -

That's awesome. My father is a Marine too, and spent most of his time stationed in Okinawa in Iraq. The rest of us stayed on the island and did our own thing during the year-and-a-half he was gone. We moved to Pendleton immediately after that. It seems a lot of people follow that route. I'm glad you ended up liking being in the military a little bit more. I know it doesn't mean much coming from someone on the internet, but Marines deserve the utmost respect, and you have mine.

Did you post on the GOT section of IMDB and then follow onto various IMDB related Facebook groups after it closed? Your posts remind me of a guy who got a little too involved in Apolodine's IRL problems with a controlling and semi-abusive husband.

The way I saw it he was threatening to get a little close to my IRL problems but yea you have the basic story right. If you want to know more you can pm but the whole debacle did enough damage at the time and I don’t want to drag anybody from the past back up in public chat.
