I'm all for a new Civil War film as well but most of the efforts, going back to
      Gods & Generals
      , have been tremendously disappointing.
There is a new series on Amazon called
      Point of Honor
. I think there's been just one episode so far and it was pretty cheesy.

There was a tv movie from 1990 called "Ironclads" about the battle between a Union and Confederate warship, I always thought it was interesting, as far as the subject goes anyways. I actually liked "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" as well as "Cold Mountain", but these are movies where the Civil War is a major plot point and catalyst, not the central theme.
So even though I'm over a year late to the party, aside from Gettysburg, which years/battles would you want to see? I personally would have liked to see the story on Ft.Wagner just b/c I know it was impenetrable. Or maybe a story about POW camps like Andersonville or Camp Douglas? Personally I would like to see a movie on the War of 1812, but with the Battle of New Orleans as the central focus point, just because I like seeing Canadians upset.

Most Civil War movies are dreck. Not good movies with major historical and military errors as well. There was one good movie before Glory and Gettysburg, the Horse Soldiers. There is a movie about Andersonville. Turner produced Andersonville like you wanted, Larry of the Newhart show is one of the villiams, it is very good. There is also Ironclads like you mentioned and one about the CSS Hunley with Donald Sutherland playing PGT Beaulreguard.
Also, the Buccaneer, done twice by Hollywood, once with Yul Brenner and Charlton Heston, is your battle of New Orleans movie.

Well done for mentioning The Horse Soldiers. Good film as well.
True I cannot think of any others other than Glory and Gettysburg. There were those two miniseries- Blue and Grey, North and South.
                Do you recall Ironclads?

There is one coming out soon about the Southern Unionist uprising in Mississippi that looks good "The Free State of Jones."
Southern Unionists have not been well treated in history or the culture (even "To Kill a Mockingbird" has a dig at them). So hopefully this will change things a bit.

I hope to see, someday, a movie telling the story of General Philip Kearny.
Known as "The One-Armed Devil", he had a fascinating life both on and off the battlefield, and was slain at the Battle of Chantilly.
