Raiders is the better film, but I enjoy Last Crusade more, if that makes any sense.
In the old days I never really cared for Temple of Doom much except for a few scenes, but it's grown on me as the years have passed. I still like it less than the other two (but definitely more than Crystal Skull). Besides Short Round and Willie being generally annoying, I think Temple could have used a little something more - it was right at that time when the Hollywood theory was that movies could not under any circumstances run over 2 hours. Temple is easily the most 80s cliche of them.
But I get what people say about Last Crusade. The humor is a bit much, but also IMO it's not distracting, at least to me. And I do get what people say about introducing family and a little backstory might have taken away from the character some, but again, I don't think it was a detriment to it, I guess. And I think the tank chase is actually better than the Raiders truck chase.

        1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
        2. The Last Crusade
        3. Temple of Doom
        4. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Raiders and Last Crusade are almost tied for me. Temple of Doom is great too but some of the scenes feel forced or distracting. Raiders and Last Crusade both have a flow to them that keeps you on the edge of your seat til the end. Crystal Skull has some great scenes but Ford's acting isn't quite as good as the original trilogy. They should have done another trilogy in the 90s instead of waiting so long. The CGI monkeys and crap (well, the entire jungle chase) was about as bad as the star wars prequels. My favourite part of the film is when they're in Nazca and Indy (with Mutt) finds the tomb of the conquistadors. In the movie theatre when I first saw it those scenes freaked me out.

Just the mere fact that you rank Temple of Doom higher than Last Crusade lost you all your credibility.

Credibility with who, you? I don't give a rat's ass about credibility or consensus. TOD is better than Crusade.

TOD was complete beep It's the worst out of all of them (yes, even worse than Crystal Skull). The Last Crusade is so far above it.

I agree. I just watched all 3 again in the last few days and Crusade is definitely a step below Raiders and Temple. Despite surface similarities it somehow lacks the grand sense of adventure and ever present danger that the first two had. I still need to re-watch Skull but i wouldn't be surprised if I end up liking it more than Crusade.

Raiders might be the better film with bigger sequences, but the overall excitement level of Last Crusade feels greater to me. I rate both films about the same, if I'll be honest.

Crusade is my favorite because I absolutely love the dynamic between Ford and Connery as son and father. No, it's not as exciting as Raiders or as threatening as Doom, but it definitely has the best humor and wit IMO.
How does it feel to be deconstructed?
