Kids in my neighborhood don't really trick or treat

β 7 years ago(October 26, 2018 05:12 PM)I don't know if it's overprotective parents or if kids are too consumed with social media to go out, but the amount of kids I see trick-or-treating has steadily decreased every year. The stores around here have candy in plastic baskets and some kids are going store to store to collect but very few go house to house.
In the Amber alert age of weirdos I guess it makes sense , kids won't risk stranger danger for some free sweets.

In my neighborhood it's the lack of sidewalks that keeps the kids away. I never run out of treats. There's also a drainage ditch between my front yard and the street. I asked my insurance man the other day if I would be liable if a kid fell into it. He said that since the county maintains it, I wouldn't be. That wouldn't keep me from being named in a lawsuit, however.

Didn't
@Dexter
say that you were Pop? Pop and I have been frenemies here and on other boards. He only remains here thru his socks. We both have lengthy IMDb posting histories.

Because of you
@Drakestraw
Yep, because of me Pop completely lost the ability to do his dying act here. I'll take credit for that one.

I haven't had any over the past few years, either. I've moved within the last few weeks, so maybe there will be more here - but I don't hold out much hope for it. Halloween seems to have died.

What kind of neighborhood are you living in and was this always the case?
When I lived in a more rural area, we only had one or two if we were lucky. And this wasn't too rural⦠but everyone went to the nearby subdivisions. The richer the subdivision, the more kids were crowding those neighborhoods.
I'm living in the main part of town now, and there are a lot of trick or treaters. The amount surprised me.
One thing I do see happening with kids now is you don't see them playing outside as much. It could just be I notice it less because I am an adult now, but it does seem that way. I was an indoor kid, but I still went outside more than what kids do now. I'm not saying that as if I am better. I probably would have loved all the tech they have now. -
