Yes, I think kids go to malls and parties. We still get a few kiddies

I don't get trick or treaters around here either which is fine because I hate kids and don't pass out candy anyways.

I haven't had any over the past few years, either. I've moved within the last few weeks, so maybe there will be more here - but I don't hold out much hope for it. Halloween seems to have died.
The train is coming with shiny cars, comfy seats, and wheels of stars. Hush, little ones, have no fear; the man in the moon is the engineer.

What kind of neighborhood are you living in and was this always the case?
When I lived in a more rural area, we only had one or two if we were lucky. And this wasn't too rural… but everyone went to the nearby subdivisions. The richer the subdivision, the more kids were crowding those neighborhoods.
I'm living in the main part of town now, and there are a lot of trick or treaters. The amount surprised me.
One thing I do see happening with kids now is you don't see them playing outside as much. It could just be I notice it less because I am an adult now, but it does seem that way. I was an indoor kid, but I still went outside more than what kids do now. I'm not saying that as if I am better. I probably would have loved all the tech they have now.

New England, suburban college town. Active during the day, real quiet at night. But I'm not far from the city.

Hmm, that's odd. Sounds like my town. I'm guessing you're not off in the outskirts. I wonder why it's like that there and not here.

it's geography for me. to the right is a 7-11. but a 10 foot wall blocks me from that traffic. to the left is a house with two retirees with no grandkids. and i have a locked front gate 60 feet from the street. **** off trick and treaters. do some extra homework instead of begging for candy. little bastards.

It's not safe for kids in my neighborhood. I keep guard on Halloween though.

Trick-and-treaters have gotten younger over the years, too. Now it's toddlers and small children with their parents. That's it. But it used to be older kids, 6th grade or so, and junior high kids, who weren't with their parents. When I was in junior high, I was at a Halloween party and we did some trick and treating too just to get candy. That's the way it was then, not a child-parent activity. The times have really changed on that.
I am addicted to you; I have tasted your mind, and I cannot forgo its flavor.

When I took my nieces last year, it was a mix, with the older kids generally doing it later.
Also, there has always been an element of child-parent activity in my area. You start off that way young and when you're closer to your preteens and in them, you usually go with friends.
I am coming to see it really depends on the area.

I noticed that too. Older kids are strictly going to parties, trick or treating is considered for little kids only.
