Ariel yearns to be human long before she meets eric. She doesn't give up anything for him. She nts to be human for her own sake.

I love both All Dogs Go To Heaven and The Little Mermaid. Though I will admit, All Dogs Go To Heaven is darker.

When you look at it like that, you take the fun out of it. Just watch and enjoy!
I like both TLM and ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN, btw. I think they are both sweet and worthy of appreciation.
Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

-Ariel tries everything she can in order to make her dream come true and become part of the human world, in which the man she saved from drowning also lives in and
-her body shape is pretty much exactly the same as every other disney princess's

Fully agreed on both fronts. Not to mention, the Disney princess shape is actually pretty realistic (heck, I know a few High School girls who had that body shape). Maybe if the TC complained about Gretchen Grundler's body shape being unrealistic, I'd actually believe it.

She wanted to be human way before she met Eric.
Once upon a time there was a magical place where it never rained. The end.

The OP is looking at it the wrong way. She wanted something and she went for it, and didn't let anyone else tell her what she could or couldn't do or have, nor did she let who she was or where she came from stop her.

Stylized drawing is wrong now? There's always Ursula if you want to shoehorn in "true-beauty" crap.

Yeah, agreed. And besides, I knew plenty of girls from high school who had a similar body type to Ariel (heck, any of the Disney Princesses), so Ariel's design if anything is pretty realistic. You want unrealistic body proportions? Look at Gretchen Grundler from Recess.
And yeah, I also agree with that second point, the "true-beauty" message that's being pushed recently IS crap, especially when we've already had people snookered into thinking that a guy who was hideous must have had true beauty within. That guy's name is Sartre. Just look him up, and read about all the awful acts he did to women.
