and believe me there wouldn't have been Hughes, especially Ferris, without stuff like Annie Hall…
together they make a movie showing suburban people overanalyzing things the way Woody does, but in a more lightweight manner like Hughes's version of Woody's overanalyzing…
Although, unlike either Woody's or John's films, this one forces you to choose sides, to know who and what to like: loser uncle comes in and instead of being charming, like most losers initially are… we're told my a whispering Steve Martin how bad he is…
And these people discuss things like people who wouldn't be where they are in the first place… it's not cheap living in large suburban houses, yet everyone has a post-grad mentality of not knowing how to deal with getting started in life more than surviving it…
and the eccentric things, the neurotic characters, are so much so there's no balance… there's no normal to show how offbeat they are…
if everyone's offbeat, it's normal…
I guess this movie tries to be normal in it's weirdness, but then, why should that matter, and most important… how is that funny?
