With someone like Larry, they would realize that beating him up would have no effect on him. He still wouldn't pay.
Wouldn't you think they would threaten his father to get him to pay? They knew where Larry lived. Suppose they showed up one day and his dad said "Larry's gone. He left." You think the loansharks would just say "Oh ok he left? have a nice day, sir."

I think Frank would agree to pay them $1000 a month until the debt is fully paid.

I suppose they wouldn't kill Larry's dad, since he wasn't the one who owed the money to the loansharks, Larry was. Would they think that maybe threatening to kill Larry's dad would make him come back and pay them? Frank could've said, "I don't know where Larry is and I'm no longer responsible for him," and the loansharks could've just left it at that.
