Bob and Mary Fisher looked like they'd make the perfect couple, but Bob's wife, Ruth, thinks otherwise. That's all she does throughout the whole movie is plot one fiendish revenge after another against both. It was all over the top right from the beginning when Ruth blows up the family house to get back at Bob.
With all the endless bad things happening to Bob under Ruth's wrath, he should have learned his lesson right from the beginning, but no, the revenge just keeps going on and on and on..like the
Energizer Rabbit
. It got really tiring after awhile.Come to Middle-Earth, a world beyond the furthest reaches of your imagination

You can't STEAL somebody that's married, that was HIS choice, hence WHY he had everything he considered important taken away from him, because he threw away his marriage, he walked out on his kids, everything.

He deserved it. She was trying hard to be a good wifebut he was a cheater and a liar. Plus by doing all this revenge.I believe she grew into a woman she has always wanted to becourageous and dependent. It's a great movie.

Everybody came out of it better, Ruth was an independent woman who was doing something progressive with her life instead of catering to her husband. Mary built her career up again using her experience with Bob as an inspiration and finally stepping away from the stupid tawdry romance. And Bob was finally humbled for once in his life, and through that experience became a potentially better person for when he got out of prison.
