a terrible movie that's cheesy in every way or a genius level brilliant parody of 80's buddy cop movies?
i love the movie for one of those reasons but genuinely can't tell which one. -

The film opens with Stallone saying "Rambo's a pussy", setting the tongue-in-cheek tone, so I'd call it an action comedy. That said, the original director was fired partly because he kept trying to make a more serious film. Stuart Baird was brought in to do a final edit and he clearly put together a light-hearted, funny, OTT action romp. It's a bit muddled but it works because Stallone and Russell are great, the 'story' rockets along, the surrounding performances are amusing, and the cheesy dialogue hits more than it misses.
