Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — UHF

    Dr Wily — 11 years ago(August 01, 2014 04:49 PM)

UHF is coming to Blu-Ray in November from Shout! Factory. Given the year, I'm guessing it will be a 25th Anniversary Edition.
The Compleat Al is also going back into print on home video for the first time since like 1985. Shout! Factory is also releasing a DVD of The Compleat Al in the same month.

Glad it is getting "The Complete Al" bonus dvd. I am however wondering if Weird Al has folded and is going to release the director's cut? From what I saw on the dvd version he made it perfectly clear that certain things were cut for a reason. Most of those cuts I completely agree with.

Does it come with The Compleat Al? Shout! is selling it separately, as well, if it is.

SDCC: "Weird Al" Yankovic's UHF Gets a 25th Anniversary Blu-ray in November
            By Russ Burlingame
            ComicBook.com.
            07/25/2014
Shout! Factory will release UHF, "Weird Al" Yankovic's cult-classic comedy, to Blu-ray this November in celebration of the film's just-passed 25th anniversary.
UHF, which debuted in cinemas on July 21, 1989, was not a financial success during its theatrical run, but turned into a home-video smash. The film was an absurd send-up of all things '80s, including early MTV, Indiana Jones and Rambo.
Announced at the (still-ongoing) Shout! Factory panel at Comic Con International: San Diego, the UHF Blu-ray will be joined by a box set of additional material titled The Compleate Al.
You can see the complete and official announcement below. So far, Shout! Factory isn't totally sure what new special features may be added or how much of the most recent, feature-rich DVD set will be carried over to the new printing.
Weird Al Yankovic and Jay Levey bring you the cult classic that turns bad television into fantastic cinema! When consummate daydreamer George Newman becomes the manager of Channel 62, a station thats losing money as quickly as its losing viewers, he begins to program the station with off-the-wall shows like Stanley Spadowskis Clubhouse, Wheel of Fish and Rauls Wild Kingdom. But can Channel 62s new popularity save it from cancellation? To find out, dont touch that dial!
Starring Weird Al Yankovic, Michael Richards (Seinfeld), Victoria Jackson (Saturday Night Live), Fran Drescher (The Nanny), Gedde Watanabe (Sixteen Candles) and many, many more!
THE COMPLEAT AL is the amazing, hilarious, and almost-true life story of Weird Al Yankovic, the Grammy award-winning master of musical parody and rock and roll comedy. THE COMPLEAT AL takes you behind the scenes, beginning with his early and somewhat formative childhood years; his high school and college days, up through his present-day bout with super-stardom. This concocted chronicle also contains some of the funniest moments from AL-TV, footage from his recent trip to Japan, and reveals for the first time the incredible story behind Eat It.

I've had no luck unlocking the advertised Easter Eggs. I'm thinking there's one in the Chapters section. If Chapter 14 is highlighted and you scroll upward you cannot get past Chapter 12. This leads me to believe there is an Easter Egg to be accessed somehow (or I have a defective disc!).

My copy has the same issue in the Chapters menu, but it seems like an authoring error and not an egg. There were about half a dozen eggs on the 2002 MGM DVD, so they shouldn't be too hard to find. That leads me to believe that they were left off the disc. I e-mailed Shout Factory to find out.
"Easter Eggs" are advertised in the list of bonus features on the back of the Blu-ray case, but they don't seem to be there. I pressed up, down, left, and right multiple times on every single menu option, in the main menu AND the submenus, to try to find them, but there was nothing.
                  Has anyone found them?
I found them on the 2002 MGM DVD, and I assumed those would be the ones re-appearing on the Blu-ray. I was hoping to replace the DVD with the Blu-ray, but if the easter eggs didn't get ported over, I guess I'll have to keep the DVD, too.

Should Factory confirmed that there are no Easter Eggs on the disc. I suspect they intended to port over the Eggs from the 2002 MGM DVD, but either forgot to include them, or couldn't include them for legal reasons.

That would be the second major snafu for Shout regarding 2014 releases. They had a major shipping error with their Night Breed.

There is a small selection of movies that I watch on a regular basis, and have considered that I should upgrade from DVD to Blu-ray. UHF might be one of them.
