If I could choose any two detectives as partners across all seasons (original series), I would pick these three:

Eames knew how to stay out of the way and let Goren do his thing. No other cop could work with him unless they're ready to stand behind his eccentric behavior. Nevertheless Goren is my fave. I agree with many posters that Lenny works well with anyone.

Guess why Falco can't make my list,
He was better when he was the Limo Driver that loved that model that the Big Time Gangster made him kill. If I remember the episode correctly?
He was so good I think the victim's name was Sharon? I recall him saying he ratted on the Gangster "for Sharon."? -

I never watched The Sopranos, but I loved Michael Imperioli in Life on Mars and Detroit 1-8-9, in both of which he played a detective. He's also done a couple of episodes of Hawaii 5-0. He's one of my favorite actors. I thought he was fine as Falco, especially in the episode in which Ed Green was back and he was being framed for murder.

Both are great and in my top-tier, with Ed and Noth.
But I don't think you can have 2 Seasoned detectives together.
And don't you just love Fontana's "Don't worry, It's Authorized" answer when the person says, "I don't know if I should let you,", "Perhaps I should call___ before I allow you to see," -

I actually really liked Max Greevey and would like to see him paired up with somebody left field
Detectives Eames from Criminal Intent? Make Lenny the lieutenant and you have the most cynical team possible!
Keeping it original series Greevey and Green would have been interesting. Actually it would probably be the season 1 conflicts turned up to 11 but I'd be up for that anyway..
I suspect the problem is that you have too many paperclips up your nose -

I really liked Lennie and Logan together.
This one might be out of left field but I liked Fontana and Nick Falco (Michael Imperioli), Falco wasn't on there for more than about 5 episodes but when the two got together the first time I could tell they would be a good team, (maybe its the Italian).
Lennie and Lupo were my favorite characters on that show so I guess I would liked to see them together but it would have been kind of weird partnering.
