    I'd completely agree with him.

He thought this one was an improvement with fun, joy and pure movie making magic
      I agree.
He called part 2 joyless, hardly any laughs, and unpleasant at times
I disagree. I prefer 3 overall but 2's still entertaining. Easily the darkest of the three but still has lots of fun, humour and great ideas.

I wonder how much of his opinion on part 2 was influenced by what went on between Crispin Glover and Bob Gale.

I think Part III was Maltin's favorite of the trilogy.

The only general consensus is that the first film is better than the third but some western fans still prefer the third. The second and third films are very different. The plot of the second film can be difficult to follow as it heavily explores time travel and can be dark, action packed, and chaotic. The third film is definitely the lightest of the trilogy, its a nice, breezy, simple film. Theres definitely some of the heart from the first film restored in the third. Im sure a lot of people dont like the second film because it doesnt have a happy ending and instead more of a cliffhanger. Rare to see people put the first film as the weakest because of how different the sequels were from each other.

I wonder how much of the hate for Part 2 has to do with the behind the scenes acrimony going on between Crispin Glover and Bob Gale.

yeah and he also hated all the friday the 13th movies so his opinion is null and void and worth nothing. he's an idiot.
if there's one thing we all can agree on it's that this movie is not anywhere near as good as part 1 or part 2.

Leonard Maltin is an idiot and so are you. Part 3 was easily the worst of the 3, no contest. Steenbergen was absolutely dreadful.

To be fair Part II is quite confusing with the alternative timelines if your aren't familiar with the plotline. Part III is a straight forward time travel western.

Fuck that asshole Maltin with a four-pronged pitchfork sideways right up his ass. He's a goddamn straight-arrow stiff MOR nerd.
