Yes, Daphne in the 1991 series was a cross between Daphne Budd and Carolyn from 'House of Dark Shadows' (she is like Daphne in that she was the first victim but had much of Carolyn's scenes; as this show's early episodes were very close to 'House of Dark Shadows'.
As for Maggie, well as rhe 1991 Victoria Winters was in many regards a remake of the Maggie Evans in 'House of Dark Shadows' (who inturn had scenes in that film that were borrowed or inspired by those of Victoria Winters and Maggie Evans who had become almost the same character from surprisingly early on) it made sense that if Maggie Evans were in it she would have to be somewhat different (being a tighter show it couldn't really have two characters which were largely the same and not only in physical resemblence but being written with almost the same personality and latter general backstory due to career and familial situation). Thus 1991 Maggie Evans comes off more as a female equivolent to Sam Evans (and Roger also has some similarities in being an artist but may be more inspired by Charles Delaware Tate and Jeff Clarke from 'House of Dark Shadows') but has an affair with Roger rather than having some unintentional tension much of the time. She also has aspects in common with Magda and the Fayes (her ESP). She is also slightly like the original idea of the character that was performed unconvincingly from one episode by Kathryn Leigh Scott wearing a horrendous wig lest she be mistaken for Victoria Moltke (it was monochrome after all) and calling people "jerks". The character being in the series bible a more world weary and cynical character.
The 1991 Sam was likewise more that barman who was largely a non-character but seems like he was going to be given a role (the old series would probably have benefitted from having the Barman at the Blue Whale as a character or better the owner of the Collinsport Inn).
1991's Woodard was of course more Thayer David's T. Eliot Stokes as depicted in the show more than the Dr. Woodard of the 1960s series (thouse the film Stokes does fill Woodard's role in many regards)
Sorry for rambling off topic slightly.

From what I remember although never truly fully explained in the show, Daphne was Elizabeth and Roger Collins much younger cousin, thus making her Carolyn and David's second cousin. Daphne was also apparently Quentin Collins's younger sister. Quentin Collins was going to be introduced if they show had received a full season order or brought back for a second season. Actor Adrian Paul who played Jeremiah Collins in the 1790 story-line was contracted to play Quentin Collins. However the show never continued and thus Adrian Paul never returned to the show as Quentin Collins the modern day reincarnation of Jeremiah Collins. It would have been interesting to see how they explained why Quentin never showed up to his sister's funeral.

They'd probably borrow elements of Chris Jennings and thus make him a wanderer. That's my guess, anyway.
        Haply I may remember,

Or possibly that he was estranged from his family, or in Europe on business. There's a dozen possible excuses they could probably come up with I guess. It would have been nice to finally see Werewolves, or at least a Werewolf in season 2. Adrian Paul as Quentin Collins the Werewolf, why did NBC have to cancel this show? Oh yeah low ratings and a network director change.

It is a massive shame as the show was actually very strong, especially for a debut season. Oh, one can only dream

Maybe in the original show, but in the 1991 version, in Daphne's first appearance she calls Elizabeth "Aunt Elizabeth", not "Cousin Elizabeth".

                  1. There were other factions of the Collins family.
                  2. They had to keep Carolyn as bait for Barnabas during aging process as in the original, and then the terrorizing of Julia.
Smart move creating Daphne, using her for the vampire staking. That whole scene is mostly the same as the original movie, even down to the timing.

I agree! I really liked her and I was upset that she died and we never saw her again. I wish they had cast her as Carolyn and the terrible actress playing Carolyn as Daphne. Then we would've been rid of her early.

Daphne always stood out to me more than the other women in their family. I wish she has more of a role than just the first victim and vampire offspring. They kind of treated her like a distant cousin.
