of course it is! take out the guns and the terrorists and you still got a story about a man trying to get to see his family at christmas. put any other scenario in there and no one says boo. if it were a zany comedy about corperate raiders doing the exact same stuff only sans the Murders and explosions and it goes down on the record as a christmas movie…what am i missing?

To be a Christmas movie, a movie doesn't need to be about Christmas, but it does need to evoke the Christmas feeling.
I would say no. It needs more than just the office Christmas party with a Christmas tree in the background. A Christmas movie doesn't need one thing specifically, but a collection of things.
Compare to
Home Alone
, which evokes the Christmas feeling:
The cheerful Nutcracker-esque John Williams' score.
Shots of the shovel guy shovelling snow.
The ending of opening gifts and the big tree.
Exterior shots of the brick suburban McCallister house, equipped with snow, Christmas lights, and wreaths in the windows.
Never lose your desire.
Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't.
