It's a 90s movie and that's the basic plot. Maybe it's a thriller comedy, maybe it's just a thriller mystery. I think the guy (the main character is male) tries to solve the murder before he's arrested or something. Maybe there's a scene where someone jumps or is thrown off the cliff. Can't remember anything else. Any ideas? I know about Getting In and Dead Man on Campus but I think this is some third movie.

There was another movie similar to Dead Man on Campus but with a thriller premise rather than the dark comedy approach, it was from 1998, called The Curve, with Matt Lillard. I'm pretty sure it involved pushing someone over a cliff.
