I didnt like the hair cut and also the character seemed a bit different. She was a bit more explosive in the first one.

Yea I agree. Even as a kid seeing it in the movie theater I noticed what a good looking woman she was.
I also remember being "jealous" of the beautiful home and perceived life they all had. To me it was a fantasy of the perfect Christmas/family.
Being an only child raised by a single parent this was like "wow…that's what its supposed to be like?
