Funny Film, descent action and a good plot.

I can't believe how the story seems ripped right out of our headlines today.
That's exactly why this film will stand the test of time, because its story and themes are just as relevant today than they were when this movie came out (if not more so). Navy Seals was ahead of its time, and accurately predicted the problem of middle eastern terrorism. The film hasn't aged.
Much better than today's crappy action films. The real practical effects work is a lot better than CGI any day
Yeah, for the Beirut scenes you can tell they've built large sets and created an urban warzone that looks and feels real. Today that would all be CGI.
Also the casting of Michael Biehn (who played warriors in Aliens and Terminator) and Charlie Sheen (who played soldiers in Platoon and Red Dawn) was a stroke of genius since both play their roles very, very convincingly.
How many a$$holes we got on this ship, anyhow?! -

I disagree right now the rating is at 5.5, and I think it's adequate. The movie has a competent beginning and a quite good final act, but all that comes in between filler at best, and that being generous. Getting a civilian in the middle of an exercise with real fire? The golf scene? Getting a member of the team killed to elicit sympathy from the audience? And don't get me started on Hawkins (Charlie Sheen) and his antics.
