Hate, hate hated this version, especially Nolte, Lewis and Lang.

I did like the original movie, but I’m a big Mitchum/Peck/Bergen fan. Thought they were much better in their roles than the remake. DeNiro just mugs it up too much, and I had trouble with Nolte’s credibility and believability in that role.

I agree.
De Niro was way over the top and Scorsese's direction was too commercial and flashy.
The only thing I preferred about the remake was the ending.
I thought the ending in the original film was a big anticlimax.
