Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Cape Fear

After watching Cape Fear, I always thought that Nolan got his inspiration for 2 scenes in The Dark Knight from this movie:
-When Joker is apprehended and is dangling upside down and the camera very gracefully turns 180 degrees to re-orient him, just like when Cady calls Danielle Bowden on the phone.
-When the nurse turns around in Dent's hospital room and it turns out to be the Joker and he shoots that cop. Just like Cady as the maid.

I think Ledger was inspired by DeNiro's performance too.

A number of movies have been said to have inspired The Dark Knight, and obviously Ledger's Joker is compared to other famous villains. I've never seen the comparisons made with Cape Fear, although these specific scenes you mentioned are incredibly similar. Neat.
You want something corny? You got it!
