Its a classic film, well acted, well good. Shpeelberg should realize he made a good jolly film.

I could not agree more with this statement. Hook is arguably the most underrated movie of all time. The set, costumes, acting, unique twist on peter pans story, it is refreshing and adventurous. I cannot say more good things about this movie.

I think it's Spielberg's most underrated movie, absolutely no doubt about that.
I love the whole new twist on the Peter Pan story, the story, costumes, sets and how Dustin Hoffman is unrecognisable as Hook. Everything.
But I think it got a sweet sorts of revenge. It's become a classic in some countries and frequently shown on T.V. So it's gained some recognition and respect
Here in Sweden it's become a Holiday classic and is shown around Christmas. Or Easter. Or both.

If it were up to me, I'd give it the Oscar for best movie without a second thought. 🙂

I think it's a pretty good film that has become masterpiece for millenials.
The movie was mixed-bag among critics (remember at the time most of the critics are probably Baby Boomers), when it first came out, in fact I think it's a Rotten Tomato (30%) til this day. Even on IMDB, during the late 90s and early 2000s, this film was rated around a 5.5 - 5.8. Now, it's almost 7, which is pretty good film according to most fans.
I've always thought the film was a little under-rated by critics. Spielberg was always giving A+ quality filmmaking Hook remains visually stunning movie with interesting characters with a pretty good story. I've found most Peter Pan movies to be quite lifeless and passable, but this one is the exact opposite. It was kind of like Mad Max: Fury Road, there's so much action going on, while the story being told is very engaging.

It is my favorite movie and I think it is an unparalleled masterpiece in so many categories.
I've never seen a movie score tell a story in such a way. The story itself is incredibly rich and nuanced, and there is no scene in the film that does not contribute to the larger story and ultimately to what is a very deep tale about the meaning of life itself. Whether it is the old people at Wendy's gathering, or children playing with food, or Hook having (comically) a suicidal episode. They're all part of a tale that is, as the saying goes, 'larger than life'.

I don't thimk it's a masterpiece, but Hook is definitely a very good movie and completely underrated and under appreciated. Dick Tracy is another 90's movie that was trashed by critics but loved by fans that finally has seemed to have been getting more love recently as well. People tend to be more critical when a movie is brand new. But then over time learn to appreciate something.
Also, I remember when Hook only had a 5.6 rating on here as recently as 10 or 12 years ago. Now it sits at a respectable 6.7. Another sign that people have finally realized it's much better than the stupid critics thought 25 years ago.

I'm someone who SHOULD have worshipped this on VHS throughout the early 1990s like many others my age (I would have been 7 when this came out), but for whatever reason I missed it until I saw it on cable in the late '90s, so my nostalgia goggles are not quite as rose-tinted as most.
IMHO it's not as bad as the haters at the time said, and it's not as good as the fervent anti-snob crowd says it is now.
