I haven't seen it in a while, but I came to this board because the original is on TCM. I give it an 8/10I thought it was a great character study of someone obsessed with what he couldn't have. And we are shown the roots of that obsession go back to his childhood. Seeing a psychopath is one thing, but being given an insight into the inner workings of the psychosis is intriguing.

I gave it a 7. I thought the two leads were pretty bland, and Sean Young in particular gave a seemingly "phoned in" performance. They also lacked any real on screen chemistry. That said, the strength of Ira Levin's source material still managed to shine through. The movie easily held my intrest for it's 90 minute running time, and I enjoyed the poetic irony of Jonathan's obsession with the Carlsson family both beginning and ending on the same stretch of train tracks.
Overall I found it to be a competant thriller a cut above the usual tripe in this much revisited formula.
